Roomie approached us to design a stand-out brand and website that appealed to students and admins worn out by the drama of move-in day
The team at Roomie was already armed with powerful 3D-scanning software and a fail-proof process of mapping dorm rooms in the biggest Universities in the country.
The problem? Convincing administrators and students to blow up decades of stale move-in day procedures and adopt Roomie's new platform is no small feat. We worked with them to craft a visual brand and voice that inspired confidence with University admins but also was playful and fresh so not to turn off soon-to-be freshmen.
Logo Design
We designed the Roomie logo to be technical, instructional, and super playful – it takes centerstage at every level of the visual brand.
In a technical sense, the logo is made up of 3 cubes of "voxels", a 3D unit of measurement (move over pixel!) In a instructional point of view, the logo is versatile and interactive, which reinforces how easily students are able to configure their dorms into different layouts. The voxel graphic can be spotted throughout the brand in illustration and type design - truly an M. C. Escher inspired world.
...and if you're a design nerd like us, you'll notice that it forms a lowercase 'R' oooo ahhhh
Web Design
Roomie’s site is packed with interactions and animations, but more importantly, it's their go-to presentation deck for administrators pitching Roomie to their departments
We developed a site structure that helps explain the technology and process behind their platform. However, it was more vital that the website also serve as a digital leave-behind that armed housing admins to lead internal meetings with all the information they need.
Not only did we help craft a visual playground for the brand to sing, we helped develop copywriting that helps anchor the visitor on key features. Throughout the site we struck a balance between technical jargon with the practical impact on student's lives and University bottom line.
brand guidelines design
No brand is complete until we feel confident that our client's are confident in executing on their own. We created a comprehensive set of brand guidelines so the Roomie team can put their new look to work! We always aim to help our clients tackle the "What Now?" phase with ease!
marketing & collateral design
From powerpoint presentations to business cards to one-page marketing sheets, the folks at Roomie needed "stuff". We worked with them to identify the most effective marketing materials plus some sweet swag: all the things a startup needs to show off its capabilities and build a professional branded look.
Thanks to Brett Harrison and the whole Roomie team for your enthusiasm and in-depth collaboration!
